L’Occitane Sells Elemis After Seven Years in Undisclosed Deal

L’Occitane Group has sold British skin care brand Elemis to private equity firm PAI Partners for an undisclosed price, ending seven years of group ownership and placing a business that L’Occitane says generated FY2026 net sales above US$300 million under private-equity control.
Under L’Occitane Group, Elemis nearly doubled net sales to more than US$300 million in FY2026, while strengthening brand equity and global commercial partnerships. The sale is described as the next phase in Elemis’ development after seven years with L’Occitane.
L’Occitane had heavily invested in the US since 2015. After several years of double-digit annual growth, the American business now accounts for approximately 50% of net sales. An estimated half of Elemis sales come online through its own direct-to-consumer platform and leading digital partners.
What is changing under PAI?
PAI Partners said it will work closely with Elemis’ management team to support continued growth, reinforce the brand’s UK leadership and accelerate US expansion.
“Elemis is a distinctive British skin care brand with exceptional products, a strong commitment to innovation and a loyal global following,” said Gaëlle d’Engremont and Colm O’Sullivan, Partners at PAI Partners.
PAI also cited Elemis’s premium positioning, clinically proven product performance and strong digital engagement. That clinical wording is a PAI characterization; the announcement cites no supporting study design, endpoint or formulation details. PAI called the wider skin care market attractive and resilient, identifying significant opportunities to accelerate US growth and expand the digital business while retaining the brand’s distinctive British identity.
Its stated priorities include:
- Reinforcing Elemis’s leadership in the UK while supporting continued growth with the management team.
- Accelerating expansion in the US and building the digital business without losing the brand’s British identity.
- Broadening reach through digital and selected premium retail channels.
- Continuing investment in the core product range and accelerating product innovation, building on the success of the hero Pro-Collagen franchise.
What does this change for the brand and its retail partners?
The immediate change is ownership and expansion strategy, not a disclosed reformulation or new clinical indication. The announcement makes continued core-product investment and wider distribution the immediate commitments. For retail partners, the practical watchpoint is whether PAI broadens selected premium retail channels while scaling the estimated half-online business and the US market, already about half of sales.
Elemis was founded in London in 1989 by entrepreneur and investor Linda Steiner with co-founders Noella Gabriel, Sean Harrington and Oriele Frank. Gabriel remains CEO and co-founder.
“Over the past seven years, with the support of L’Occitane Group, we have strengthened and grown the Elemis business, built a compelling product proposition, and created a truly differentiated customer and retail experience,” said Gabriel.
She said the company would build on that progress by bringing its skin care products to more people while remaining true to its brand, heritage and values. Gabriel thanked L’Occitane for seven years of support and said Elemis was ready for its next phase of growth with PAI.
Reinold Geiger, chairman and CEO of L’Occitane Group, said Elemis had played a special role in the group’s history and was its first major acquisition. He said it marked an important step in L’Occitane’s evolution into a true multi-brand group. The transaction, he said, reflects a disciplined portfolio decision focused on creating long-term value, while expressing gratitude for Elemis’s contributions and pride in the growth they created together.
The next phase is now specific: keep investing in the core range, widen digital and selected premium retail reach, and put more weight behind US expansion while preserving the British brand. Whether PAI can turn those priorities into sustained growth without losing Elemis’s premium positioning is the practical test now facing the investor and management team.
