Biodance and Medicube Open First Permanent European Counters at Selfridges
Biodance and Medicube have opened their first permanent counters in Europe at Selfridges' Oxford Street flagship in London, through a strategic partnership with distributor Luneia Brands that also marks Luneia's first permanent counter development.
The counters sit within the luxury department store's new dedicated K-beauty destination in The Beauty Workshop. According to Luneia Brands, the Biodance counter is the brand's first permanent counter anywhere in the world, while the Medicube counter follows recent permanent launches in South Korea and Mexico. It's also the first time the two brands have launched permanent counters together.
How the partnership came together
Selfridges approached Luneia to help conceptualise and deliver the counters, building on an existing commercial relationship.
"Luneia Brands has built a strong, collaborative relationship with Selfridges over several years," Gemma Murari, Managing Director, Luneia Brands, told Cosmetics Business. "With K-beauty growing rapidly across an increasingly fragmented distribution landscape, retailers are looking for partners who can deliver the brands they want with the right service, availability and brand messaging around them."
Murari said Selfridges recognised Luneia as a reliable, commercial and trend-led partner. "As a globally recognised tastemaker, Selfridges is the natural home for both," she said.
What the counters offer shoppers
Both counter spaces have been designed as immersive environments for discovery and education, translating two digitally native brands into physical retail. The format combines elevated visual merchandising, hands-on demonstrations and personalised consultations, including bespoke skin care advice.
Murari pointed to the specifics of the in-store offer: Medicube's dedicated devices bar, bespoke skin care consultations on both counters, and access to the brands' largest physical product ranges in the UK. First-to-market launches are planned throughout 2027.
"The Selfridges customer is well informed and visits the store expecting discovery, expertise and experiential reasons to shop in person rather than online," Murari said.
Why Selfridges doubled down
Jade Mainprize, Beauty Buyer, Selfridges, framed the move against the UK's history with Korean skin care rather than as a first entry for the category.
"While this is not the first time we have seen K-Beauty enter the UK market, what has changed significantly is the way Kore", Mainprize said, in comments reported by Cosmetics Business.
The partnership signals how UK luxury retail now handles K-beauty distribution: rather than relying on online marketplaces or transient pop-ups, Selfridges has committed to permanent, staffed counters with service built in — a format Luneia says retailers increasingly want as the distribution landscape fragments.
For Biodance and Medicube, both of which built their followings online, the Oxford Street counters give them a permanent European physical showcase, with the devices bar and consultation model positioning them as service-led skin care brands rather than purely e-commerce players. With first-to-market launches promised through 2027, the Selfridges destination looks set to function as the brands' European testing ground for retail-led growth.
